what do you mean by crunchy?
one thing you may have to do is to go into the control panel and sound. then to
your default sound device. then to to the enhancements control tab and turn off
all enhancements. then your synth will be easier to understand.

I upgraded to windows 10 but had to revert back to windows 7 after about 5
days because two programs I use on a daily basis would not work properly.
The OS itself seem to work very well.I will probably go back to win 10 when
I find programs to take the place of the two that did not work well.

I have used everything from 95, to 10. The worst out of all of those
operating systems, was Windows Vista.
If you did have to get a new computer, I can help you with windows 10.
