I think what you are actually hearing is that the favorites pane is open on the left. To check and remove it, go to the View menu and arrow down to the Explorer Bars menu option, which is second to the top on my menu. The first submenu option is Favorites. Hit enter on this to toggle it off. It also says there is a keyboard shortcut of Control Shift I to toggle this. I'd probably hit the Window Eyes bypass key of insert B first, as I do not know if there is a WE command for Shift Control I.
