Karyn,

Don't bank on my stupidity for your retort. I have an iPhone. No one puts "Sent from my iPhone" on the bottom of their messages so people will know they dictated. Apple puts it there by default as an advertisement. Users have to figure out how to change or remove it. Most don't. That's why you see it on virtually all messages sent from iPhones.

When I dictate I don't want to sound like an idiot. So I check and correct. But that's just me. If you don't care, well, that's your choice.

Tom,

That's why many of us with I-phones put that at the bottom of our messages.
It helps you understand that it was likely dictated and dictation can get
you at time so cool it on this one.

No. It wasn't aimed at you, Chris. I agree with your sensible message.

It was Darrell's post:
"I would be more than willing to give them a chance, if they were not in bed
with the double of the system technology.
Sent from my iPhone"

I assume that was supposed to be "the devil of assistive technology."

Just atempting to offer a bit of perspective and calm people down.
Sorry if it struck a nerve. I never meant to.

I can't believe how crazy some of you are getting over this....this
deal just went down, and all of a sudden Window-eyes is already
just assumed to be gone. It's not. No announcements on the future
of any products has been made. Please do not jump to conclusions,
call your congressmen or scream until you can't scream no more.
The deal is done folks. Obviously AI squared had to do this to
survive. what would you rather have, a message saying well folks,
we're brokesville, thanks for your support but due to us not making
enough cash we have to go bye byes. Then you guys would complain too.
Either way these guys can't win. Give them a chance!

One can still create set files, that functionality wasn't removed,

I think due to uia, and osm issues, set files are less useful than
they used to be, not anyones fault, just the way things are being
displayed with no osm makes a lot of what is in a set file much
less valuable than it used to be.

Hi,

I'm not certain precisely what you mean when you say that the
creation of set files was taken away.
Set files are still used and can be created in Window-Eyes to the
present day.

First of all I am not sure where the idea of SMA for Window Eyes
is cheaper than the SMA for JAWS. I had a choice of either paying
fifty dollars for the newest Window Eyes of buying an SMA for two
hundred dollars and getting the last update free. Window Eyes SMA
is good for two versions. JAWS SMA for two versions is one
hundred eighty dollars if you use citrix metaframe or one hundred
twenty dollars for Home Version of JAWS which is good for two
upgrades. Freedom Scientific has never said you pay for an
upgrade between major versions or buy an SMA. An SMA for window
eyes is two hundred dollars for two upgrades.

Second of all Window Eyes has gotten rid of what I thought two of
the best features were. The first is the creation of set files
and the second is to be able to use the Window Eyes mouse more
proficiently.

Third JAWS runs more smoothly than does Window Eyes at this
point. It can also start up in Windows 7 without messing up the
video display and making the screen unseeable.

Fourth while there are still issues with Window Eyes crashing
Explorer and other programs JAWS does not seem to have that
issue.

Fifth I have been a Window Eyes user for better than ten years. I
switched to it from JAWS and at that time was very pleased but
since version 9 there seems to be more problems that do not get
fixed. To avoid dealing with the crashes I did renew my JAWS to
current.

Sixth As to tech support most of the time lately you get the same
from either company. "It is your computer" Ok so sometimes that
could be true but it is also an easy out.

Seventh It is fine to support a company but one also needs to be
honest about things. Right now my number one recommendation would
be NVDA. No screen reader will ever be perfect but when one pays
for an SMA one should be able to expect improvements that can be
noticed.

I can understand why the deal was made. It is indeed about profit
for your products but maybe Window Eyes should never have had a
free version. Maybe we should have seen at that time there would
be other major changes that we might not like.

Hopefully both programs will be available so that a person can
choose which problems they wish to deal with. So yes JAWS does
have some issues but all screen readers always will
