have you given the external drive a label name? it will be easier to find if you do. and note what drive letter is assigned to the drive on your desktop. it will be easier to remember if the drive only has one drive letter assigned to it.

on the lap top:
before opening the computer icon open a context menu on it and open manage. find storage then arrow down to disk management. tab once to the list of drives if the drive has a label name you will be able to see which drive is the u s b drive.. see if it has a drive letter assigned to it. if not open a context menu on the drive and choose change drive letter and assign a drive letter to it. once it has a drive letter assigned it should show in the list of drives in computer. or this pc for windows 8 and up. -----Original Message----- From: Matthew Chao via Talk

Subject: Finding External Drive in Windows 7

Hi, Folks. I just had my system OS fixed by the Microsoft Disability
Center, and it's working well. However, when I plug in an external USB
3.0 drive, I can't find it under "computer" . It shows up on "devices,"
but I can't get into the drive. The drive is a backup drive, and is
accessible on my desktop system but not my laptop. How do I get to the
drive when it's plugged into the laptop? Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao
