Hi,

I downloaded the program and found the view menu was blank. Nothing in it was visible to window-eyes. I had to shift tab twice to get to the folders view. Tabbing down from the in box, is a nightmare to say the least. It does get you into the main body of the message, only shift tab twice gets you out of it. I was able to set up an email accoun. The options menu only works via the numberpad.

When deleting an email, it doesn't put focus on the next email. You have to arrow down to the next email.

I haven't tried the spell check yet. Although I was able to send a message no problem.

I will contact the customer support base with my concerns. Maybe they will listen.

If more people do the same, then they may pay more attention to proper accessibility.

Live long and prosper, John

I saw the following on another list. Perhaps someone should talk to the
developer of this program to make it more accessible?

Hi Group,

I downloaded and installed the newest version of OE Classic version 2.51.
It is definitely not accessible. None of the first letter navigation
features work as they do in the original Outlook Express. Folder navigation
is not possible without use of the JAWS/review cursor. Similarly,
navigating the options menus is not possible using classic keystrokes such
as tab and shift tab. You must use review/JAWS cursor to highlight items
and click with the JAWS/mouse cursors.

Unless you really want to be frustrated or unless there is some setting I
must change to make the program more accessible, I would not recommend it
for blind users.

The discussions on this subject have been sparked by a very brief notice in the Tech Tidbits newsletter from Flying Blind. I looked at the web page and no mention was made of accessibility as it relates to blind users. The word accessibility was used but it is used in the context of having your messages and perhaps other things available easily. If the program had intentionally been made more accessible, I think that would have been mentioned as a new
development.

And even if the program were more accessible than previously, convenience
and accessibility are two different things. Unless the program can do
things like first letter navigation in the folders field, then it may be
made accessible and still won't be convenient as Outlook Express was.

Also, identities are not used in this program which may be important to some
people.

I very much doubt that this program is any more accessible than in the past and I wouldn't be surprised if the conveniences that people like in Outlook
Express are not present.

Hi: I googled it and it looks like a reputable product.
The reviews I read said it is very similar to WindowsXP version of Outlook
Express.
Let me know how you find using it, the setup process and the accessibility -
does it use the Menu Dropdowns like Outlook Express did?
Outlook Express was indeed a very nice e-mail provider to work with.

Does anyone know any thing about this?
Here is an email program that may replace Outlook Express for those who miss
that long-defunct program:
