Don,
If you have Windows sounds or your sighted friend can get any audio out
via music, YouTube, or any other internet source I'd have them open the
Window-Eyes control panel, devices, synthesizers, and make sure your
synth is going to the right audio output. Mine has been changed to a
different output occasionally. But I have two audio interfaces with
several outputs and set Window-Eyes to one and NVDA and Narrator to
another. So they will usually work and allow me to reset Window-Eyes.
Windows has never dealt with multiple audio devices well. And things
like a USB headset or microphone with a headphone jack constitute
secondary sound cards.
I've also seen updates change the system default output in the same way,
which is usually very illogical, i.e. to my digital or ADAT outputs. And
this can make it seem like nothing is working because most media players
assume the default output. This is why, if possible, I set them to the
specific output that is the default rather than just "default."
So you'd have to have your friend check the default output in the
Windows control panel, sounds.
Hth,
Tom

If you can get your sighted friend to help, you might try uninstalling the
sound driver. Then, when you restart, first, Win 10 uses a generic driver
that works for a few minutes while it goes to the net and re-downloads the
correct sound driver for your system.
That's one possibility.

Subject: win 10 update more info
Hi Again:
Ok, had a friend with sight and all looked good on the screen
All icons and the keyboard worked with the desktop icons
Thus, nothing wrong with windows 10, but, the problem, no speech.
I tried to use the window eyes command to start but no lluck
Then my friend tried to click on the window eyes icon and still nothing.
So I am assuming that either the sound card is finished or the sound is
muted
That is it for me, I will need some help from a tech person unless I could
install win eyes again from the cd, possible yes or no?
Don't you just love computers, (smile)
Don
