Memory serves me right, turning on and off browse mode in nvda, you have to press Insert-Space.
As for touch-screen support, I am no familiar, so cannot help. Like you have already been adviced, you might want to ask your questions on the NVDA list. I do know, there was some discussion about touch handling, recently. Yet, since I am not on such a device, I skipped it all.
