Hi Tom,
Although it was not that easy, I took the easy way out. I uninstalled
Kurzweil and the printer. I have now reinstalled them both and they
work for scanning from Kurzweil. I have not tried scanning anything to
the computer, though. There is a patch I will need to use. I might
wait until Monday and talk with Canon about it.

Carol,
If the Kurzweil hasn't come back you can open properties on the
executable and either try running the compatibility trouble-shooter or
tweaking it yourself.
Good luck,
Tom

Thank you, Tom. This will certainly come in handy. I have seen
others mentioning it, but I have not had too much need to explore it
yet. I am working on the basics, like what happened to my Kurzweil
that was here yesterday and still appears in my program x86 files but
will not run at all. Next step here is to reboot the PC and see if it
comes bck.

PS I am praying for all of you on the East Coast. I used to live in
Baltimore, so am accustomed to some of the noreasters that have hit
in the past. I do have a number of friends and relatives that still
live out East.

Here's another shortcut you'll probably want in Windows 10.
Windows+I opens settings.
It's like another control panel. More and more things are being
moved to it. You'll land in a search box. Shift+Tab up to the list
box and arrow around through all the various headers. Then tab down.
Have fun with Windows 10. I didn't find it to be a big hurtle. But
of course hindsight makes most things seem easier than they were.
And now with the "bomb cyclone" revving up and pounding down on me
it's time to shut down and pull the plug before dear mother nature
does.
Regards,
Tom

Thanks. I did figure it out. It only said "d" when I pressed
winkey+d, so I thought it was not allowing me to go to the desktop.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I just downloaded the Windows 10
Missing Manual. It is quite a long book, so I will be busy for a
long time, grin.

Carol,
When you close all programs, or at startup, and land in this
window, just press Windows+D to go to the desktop.

Hi Rod,
So, I guess it is like the pc losing focus? Boy! Do I have a
lot to learn!
I just downloaded the Windows 10 Missing Manual to see if I can
get some basic information. In some ways, this is not as bad as
switching from Windows 98 to Windows 7. But, there is a lot more
now than there was for that switch.
Thanks for the information.

Hi Carol,
It's just what we hear when nothing is focused, and it's
something we all just have to put up with. (sigh)
Best,

Hi,
What is foreground staging (which says nothing) and how can I
keep it from showing up and blocking everything?
Actually, it doesn't block everything unless it is the only
thing open, grin. It just is there and won't go away and I wish
it would, of course, if it has a function, I don't want to get
rid of it, I only want to get it closed. Thanks
Carol
