Microsoft has stated that upgrades to Windows 10 are automatic and are free.
That's the upside and the downside of Windows 10. (Downside is that you
sometimes get upgrades at times that you don't expect). You do need to keep
upgrading JAWS, if you use that, or should be donating to NVDA, which has
quarterly upgrades. Or you may need to learn how to use Narrator, which has
come a very long way in recent years.

Am I to understand that upgrades from previous os, win7, for example
will now need to be purchased and Win10 will not cost anything extra for
updates? Or, does this mean all Windows updates will be paid updates?
If the latter is true, this would mean we will now have to pay for
updates we don't want but are forced to install. I am running Win10
version 17.09, but am not certain whether this is the most current
build. Do we neeed to do anything to keep up-to-date, or are updates
