I switch to echo words. When doing a Google search in IE, it didn't speak anything after typing a word and pressing the space bar. Although, in MS Word, it spoke everything. So, I switched back to echo characters, and all keys echoed correctly. Then going to the desktop, the keys started echoing different letters/numbers again. Key echo works fine then, for no apparent reason, it starts this behavior.
I have un-installed and re-installed Window-Eyes and it still behaves this way. NVDA does not have a problem. I have also tried another keyboard(not wireless).
