> In my little world I have my own local motivation: the 2010 Soccer World Cup
My own local motivation is the Summer Canada Games that will be held in 2013 (I got more time than you!) in my home town of Sherbrooke, Québec. I'm planning on organizing mapping parties to complete OpenStreetMap for the Sherbrooke area (I want all sports facilities and anything even remotely useful for tourists on OSM) and I want the most up to date aerial photo coverage so that we can come up with a compelling mapping/routing application for the Canada games. We'll be deploying our server for OSM data, so I guess we could also host the aerial photos for our area and become one node in the federated distribution architecture discussed on this list. It would be interesting to have specs for a light/medium server to act as an OAM node. I guess the idea of a federated architecture is to use anything out there, but for organizations that have nothing to begin with except maybe a couple of grands to spend on hardware, it'd be neat to have hardware options as a function of expected load for example.
