Hey everyone, Great thoughts and conversation from all.
Now let's start to get some of the ideas down on the wiki. If you've got hopes/dreams/requirements from a system like this, start a section on the wiki to detail what you want. If you have a list of things you would like to see discussed as part of a face-to-face -- put them in the wiki. If you have ideas for possible solutions (even conflicting, ie distributed vs centralized vs catalog/directory) get them in the wiki. This thread is getting long enough to the point that things are going to start getting lost in the shuffle. Let's call this thread dead and if you have more to discuss, let's break the thread into appropriate sub-topics -- making sure to bring conclusions or even tabled items to the wiki so we can maintain some organization to our thoughts.
