No - source tags go into the new changesets, you do not touch past changesets. When you want to check the sources of the data, you check for all the changesets. Keep in mind that paranoid OSMers like me think that sources "contaminate" the data, even if that piece of data is modified afterwards. And, for example, I may draw a street using Y!, but somebody may modify just the name of the street during a mapping party.
