You should use multiple sources on T'Interweb :-) . A causeway is a raised way across wet ground or water - sand is not a requirement.
I might be tempted to draw the coastline around the islands and either side of the causeway, unless the causeway is flooded by the tide, as some are, so it would look something like a dumbbell.
