I've been suggesting putting more emphasis on tiles in the past but without much success, I would love nothing more than something that competes some what with Googles mapping effort and especially enables easy integration with other web sites, especially in terms of uptime than present. If the main server is offline, or the data centre etc, then anyone with maps embedded in their websites loose everything. > Yes, in the same way we "accepted" mobile phones before the iPhone made us > get totally excited about them. Ummm, the iPhone doesn't make me excited, I ended up with an iPod at one stage and ended up giving it away cause of all the hoops you have to jump through to load songs onto it. I'm more excited about things like Android where you can get full access to your OS, although it'd be nice to get access to base band firmware too, and can load custom roms with lots of excellent additions that Google can't or won't add to the OS for what ever reason, like wifi tethering and removing apps that carriers normally load on phones that you can't get rid of. Although the N900 might technically be better due to easier method of getting root access, I think android is going to be a lot more wide spread because it's "good enough" for most. > I "accept" that cloudmade only updates their data once every 1-2 weeks, I always assumed they were using incremental updates for their database, it's a lot "better" imho than doing a complete reload of the database. OSM originally was doing DB reloads to catch up with any missed updates that got past the incremental update files. > meaning that any changes I make that improve routing take a long time to > see. By contrast, updates in micromapping appear instantly on OSM. Guess > which I spend more time doing? Yes we all love to have instant gratification ;) _______________________________________________ talk mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
