A quick search suggests to me that very few mappers are using Flickr machine
tags and it occurred to me that maybe not many people are aware that they exist.

So :

You can add machine tags to any image in Flickr, in the form "osm:node='node
id'" or "osm:way='way id'" to link directly to the feature on the map. The link
is in the "Additional Information" section to the right of the image and down a
bit. Machine tags are added in exactly the same way as any other tag; magic
identifies the difference and lists them separately.

I use image="URL" from a POI back to Flickr.

So far I've used this feature for recording amenities images, local history
items, POIs such as pubs and for slideshows of routes one might use to cycle
round town.

See this hotel and these sets as examples.

There are lots of other potential uses for machine tags which I haven't
explored yet.

One day I can see POIs of amenity=slideshow, amenity=video, audio, gigapan or
whatever.
( I used this idea for CoolIris too and it worked a treat when I put the link
in. Yesterday it seemed the link had become a dead parrot. To be repaired,
tweaked,removed shortly.)

Ain't OSM and Flickr just the best toys eveeerrrr?

Adrian.
