It might be possible to use haxe http://haxe.org/ to create an non flash webpage." Would one use haxe to convert the source code of potlatch to the 'haxe language'? (forgive me if I'm wrong, I only skimmed http://haxe.org/doc/intro ) Then convert from the 'haxe language' to 'PHP', 'C++' or 'Javascript'. With limited knowledge I would guess 'PHP'. The last time I tried it, the mouse cursor would go in various directions even if my mouse had stopped, and it would take a lot of time for me to understand where my cursor is. Still this is the issue. That could be because of the processing power required and some latency issues.
