I think part of the problem here is/was that there are many support lists covering packages used by sections of the project, and some 'country' groups (naming no names) impose rules which are discussed locally but not opened to the more general user base. An announcement here that 'X' is available was the right start, but there needed to be a more open discussion on changing the core tool suite to identify IF 'X' should be adopted as a default? That discussion should take place here?
