If you are offering the two alternatives (1) leave bad imports easy to find, or (2) cloak bad imports by fixing their tags and therefore allow one single person to work more effectively, then (1) is clearly preferrable. Ignoring list entries that simply have a capitalisation problem doesn't seem a huge problem to me, and I could do that without actually changing them all in OSM.
