Keep in mind Dana's environment. 

The culture of Silicon Valley is heavily influenced by venture capital and 
people who are looking for The Next Big Thing and its investment potential.

If you approach venture capitalists about an idea for a better XML mousetrap, 
you'll probably hear more of the 'XML is dead' mantra than if you are talking 
to 
techies and system architects.
