It is calling it safe to make sure it is unlocked and the messages will be
picked up and read by Talks. So having it unlocked is just a good thing to do
when you are changing things on the phone to insure that you get all the needed
information in order to correctly make any changes to your phone do to things
you are doing to the phone. This away there is no guessing what will and or
will not be read based on the model of handset being used and or firmware being
used on said handset. Hear is a example if your handset is locked, a new voice
mail message comes in. You press soft key2 to stop the alert. Now if you do a
Talks followed by select. You hear you have a message and it may say 1 of 2.
However you may not be able to do anything with it because the keypad is still
locked. So just because a screen comes to the forground when the keypad is
locked doesn't mean you will be able to do anything with it. That is why it is
good to make sure it is unlock when you are changing how it is to behave.

Hello, not sure about n86, but for my e52, even if the keypad is locked, it
will be opened the moment you plug in device. So, it is not necessary that
your keypad is unlocked.
