No you do not need to have a active Sim card in your phone to install a new
version of Talks or the KNFBReader Mobile Software. The only thing it is
required is to have the current date and time correct on the phone when
installing any software updates.

It will still work. Have someone removed your Sin card and turn on your
phone again and you will be promp by your phone that you have no phone
connection and turn the KNFB Reader and you will be set to go. But if
you
need to update to a new update for the Reader have some one put there Sin
card in for you and do the update and afther you have done this they can
have there Sin card back. Your phone need a connection.

The reason I ask, is that my A T and T coverage is TERRIBLE! I have
constantly dropped calls. I think I had may be 2 dropped calls, during all
the years I was with Verizon.
