The Tango Society of Boston presents three weeks of Milonga with masters Facundo and Kely Posadas from Buenos Aires.
There are four parallel series during the 3 weeks, and you may take one or more series, depending on your level and schedule. SERIES A. INTRODUCTION TO MILONGA (2-4 pm Sundays Nov 7, 14, 21). Recommended for all, regardless of amount of prior experience. If you have studied Milonga before, you should still try to take this, since Facundo and Kely's approach to teaching Milonga is unique. SERIES B. MILONGA VARIATIONS (4:30-6 pm Sundays Nov 7, 14, 21). This will build on the material in Series A. Concurrent enrollment in Series A recommended but not necessary for those with Milonga experience. SUPERVISED PRACTICA (6:30-9 pm Sundays Nov 7, 14, 21). Practice and dancing time with informal one-on-one instruction provided by Facundo and Kely, who will go around and help people out, or share some stories, or briefly illustrate another variation, or ...? Tango, Milonga and Vals music will all be played. SERIES C. MILONGA WITH TRASPIE (7:15-8:45 pm Mondays Nov 8 & 15, concluding on Saturday Nov 20 2-4 pm). A more elaborate form of the Milonga with quick weight changes and sycopations. Recommended for intermediate to advanced dancers who are already comfortable with the Milonga. SERIES D. MILONGA WITH TRASPIE AND CANDOMBE (9-10:30 pm Mondays Nov 8 & 15, concluding on Sat Nov 20 4:30-6 pm). A continuation of Series C, with additional variations, and including the incorporation of some elements of the Candombe, an African dance that was, along with the Cuban Habanera, one of the roots of the Milonga. Concurrent enrollment in Series C recommended but not necessary for those with Traspie background. GRAN MILONGA (9 pm - 1 am Saturday Nov 20). This is Milonga, the dance party, as opposed to Milonga the dance! Dancing, food and drink. Exhibition by Facundo and Kely! PRICES: $35 for 1 series (ALL 3 weeks), $60 for 2 series on the same day (i.e., A & B together, or C & D together) for members in advance. (At the door prices $45 for 1 series, $75 for 2 series, subject to availability.) Supervised practica: $5 each in advance, $6 at the door, free for those taking all 4 series. Gran Milonga (the party): $5 in advance, $7 at the door. Non-member prices slightly higher, or you can become a member concurrently and pay the member price--see the registration form for details. In addition to the Milonga series, Facundo and Kely will also be teaching classes in Beginning Tango from 7-9 pm on Wedneday, November 10 and 17th ($10 members, $12 non-members each day, including dancing till 11:30 pm). All events are held at the VFW Mt. Auburn Post, 688 Huron Avenue, Cambridge. For more information send e-mail to [email protected] or leave a message at TangoLine(tm): 617-699-6246. (Facundo and Kely are among the highly sought after dancers in the Tango world. They were among the faculty at the 1st International Tango Congress in Buenos Aires in 1999 and will again be on their faculty in 2000. They will also teach at the US Tango Congress in Miami in 2000, and several other Tango events in Europe, the United States and Argentina. This is a rare opportunity to have teachers of the reputation of Facundo and Kely for an extended period, and also a rare opportunity for an extended study in the Milonga.)
