Nancy, fellow tangueros. I could not help but to laugh when I read this post. It brought back memories of my trip to Bs As 2 years ago. I too found a very cheap fare with LAB (Lloyd Aero Boliviano) from Miami to Bs As. We even had an unscheduled stop/change of planes in Tocumen, Panama (the terminal had not changed one iota since I last saw it in 1962). When we arrived at the gate in Miami, we found that many passengers had brought their sleeping bags! they were prepared to spend the night at the gate. "it is always like this" someone said, "they are never on time, we had to wait as much as 12 hours before". We were very fortunate, I think we only had a 4 or 5 hour wait in Miami, a complete change of flight plans (including the visit to Panama) and a tired old airplane. To their credit, the flight from Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Bs As was in a more modern and comfortable airplane and the food was more edible. If only the multitude of screaming children would have gone to sleep it would have been tolerable. The return flight was equally tiresome as we had to wait for hours in the Santa Cruz terminal for our connecting flight to Miami. Not only is the terminal small and Spartan, but the few shops were closed and there was absolutely nothing to do. When you arrive in Santa Cruz, there are "organized tours" of the city for $25 (I think) USD. God knows what one can see in a small Andean city in the middle of the night, but given the alternative I would probably take it if I ever did this again ;-) $620 sounds very attractive for trip, but I would definitely be prepared for lengthy delays and uncertain schedules. Take lots of good books and pack some food as well. The trips back and forth could be fairly tiring and frustrating. The price is right, but I've decided that for me, the comfort and convenience of direct flights in better airlines is worth the few extra hundred bucks ;-)
