Clarin had an interview with Maria Nieves in the Sunday edition. She will be celebrating 50 years in tango by returning to the stage in a new production called Tangueria which will open at El Nacional in Buenos Aires on January 8, 2002 for an 8-week run. In May, the show goes to Spain with a cast of 30.
Tita Merello, who recently turned 97, was interviewed on television last Tuesday after many years. She's not in the best of health and made an appearance for people to support the Fundacion Favaloro where she has been living for many years. If you will be in Buenos Aires this Saturday, you may want to go to Centro Region Leonesa for a special show with Miguel Angel Zotto and Maria Nieves and other dancers followed by a milonga. Another option for the same night is a milonga at Club Premiere, a milonga of the 1950s, where the milongueros will be (me, too). B.A. Tango -- Buenos Aires Tango ( the free tango magazine) will be available in the milongas next week. This issue includes the new Guia Trimestral for Dec/Jan/Feb, the source for information on everything to do with tango in Buenos Aires. December 11 is Dia Nacional del Tango. The city government isn't doing a festival that week this year, but Alicia de Regin has organized Noche de Milongueros at Esmeralda 565 from 9:30pm. The newspaper headlines yesterday announced that for the next three months, there will be a $250 withdrawal limit per week from the ATMs. This may affect only local accounts, but tourists might want to plan ahead by bringing extra U.S. dollars. Our weekly tango chats continue every Tuesday from 5:00-7:00pm at La Academia Cafe, Callao 368. Join us when you are in BsAs. Pichi de Buenos Aires Tango Tourist Services
