It's not too late... join us in St. Louis for:St Louis Close Embrace Tango
Weekend 2004
Friday March 19 Sunday March 21 at Washington University with Tom Stermitz
from Denver
At its best, Tango is a trance - danced so closely that you feel your partner's
heart beat and you share the rhythm of their breathing.
Tom's classes are designed to have you up and dancing social-style Argentine
Tango as quickly as possible. He is especially effective at getting men to be
confident, to feel the beat, and to lead the intricate steps of tango. His
approach to teaching tango is from the inside out, emphasizing improvisation,
fundamentals, heart & soul, rhythm & music and especially the connection
between the leader and follower. What looks complex is actually simple when
approached as an improvised, rhythmic walk rather than memorized patterns. Even
advanced dancers will find Tom s intro class useful and are encouraged to
attend both days.
Teaching in Boulder & Denver for many years, Tom is a specialist in the
rhythmic, close-embrace social style of tango typical of many clubs in Buenos
Aires. He has trained some of the best tango dancers in his area and is
increasingly in demand for workshops and Tango Festivals around the US and
abroad. And now, St Louis!
We have had an excellent response from out of town people for this workshop. So
far, we are expecting people from KC, Springfield, Madison, Champaign-Urbana,
Memphis, Tulsa, Lansing, and Fairfield. In addition to being an exciting
weekend, this will be a great opportunity to meet fellow dancers from all over
the Midwest!
