CENTRAL ILLINOIS CLOSE EMBRACE TANGO WEEKEND
Friday September 10 - Monday September 13
Champaign-Urbana, Illinois
Guest Instructor: Tom Stermitz, Denver, Colorado
At its best, Tango is a trance - danced so closely that you feel your
partner's heart beat and you share the rhythm of their breathing.
- For beginners: Tom Stermitz's classes are designed to have you up and
dancing Buenos Aires social style tango as quickly as possible. He is especially
effective at getting men to be confident, to feel the beat, and to effectively
lead their partners. Tom's approach to teaching tango is from the inside out,
emphasizing improvisation, fundamentals, heart & soul, rhythm & music and
especially the connection between man and woman. What looks complex is actually
simple when tango is approached as an improvised, rhythmic walk rather than
memorized patterns.
- For more advanced dancers: There will also be several classes at the
intermediate/advanced level for those already experienced in close embrace style
tango. However, due to Tom's unique approach based in musicality, even advanced
dancers will find his beginner level classes enlightening, even challenging.
Since all classes are based in these fundamentals of musicality, advanced
dancers are encouraged to attend the workshop series from the beginning.
Depending
upon your prior education in close embrace tango, you may even find the
musicality instruction in the Beginner level workshops enlightening.
- About Tom: Tom is a major promoter of the rhythmic close-embrace social
style of tango in the US. He is the organizer of the annual Memorial Day Weekend
and Labor Day Weekend tango festivals in Denver. Teaching in Boulder & Denver
for many years, Tom has trained some of the best tango dancers in his area and
is increasingly in demand for workshops and Tango Festivals around the US and
abroad.
