EXPLORE OREGON DURING TANGOFEST 2004!!
The idea has surfaced more than once that someone within the Portland
Tango community organize day hikes/trips specifically for those who visit
Portland for TangoFest 2004. We want to offer the Tango Traveller an invitation
to experience two of Oregon s most beautiful places; Mt. Hood and the Columbia
River Gorge.
We have arranged two separate day trips specifically designed for Tango
fanatics visiting Portland, Oregon for TangoFest 2004. Please be aware these
trips are BEFORE the festival begins Although these trips are before the
festival, don t worry you can still get in your Tango fix each night, as there
are regular nightly local milongas and practicas in Portland.
We offer:
Experience a full-day, exploration of Oregon s, forests, flowing rivers,
raging waterfalls, and spectacular mountains! Day hikes with a local guide
specifically for people coming to Portland for TangoFest 2004. Roundtrip
transportation from the Norse Hall and interpretive guide are provided. No
technical climbing or hiking experience necessary. It s a great way to get
to know each other before the workshops and milongas begin!!
Trips offered:
1) Monday October 11, 2004 day hike on the Eagle Creek Trail.
Leave Portland 8:30.a.m., return to Portland 5:00.p.m. 6 Miles round trip.
Cost $30 per person includes roundtrip transportation and local guide. See
description below.
Eagle Creek Trail (from

Difficulty: easy
Time: up to 5 hours
Length: 6 miles
Elevation Gain: 300 to 1,200 feet
Season: year-round
One of Oregon s most popular and beautiful hiking trails, Eagle Creek
showcases some of the best scenery of the Columbia River Gorge National
Scenic Area. The trail is fairly level and climbs slowly. At times, it
follows the river, with some drop-offs. Railings exist along the rock wall,
and there is plenty of room to pass. The trail passes several waterfalls
and, at one point, drops into a narrow slot that is crossed by a sturdy
bridge. Bring a camera and capture the awesome scene of old-growth trees,
soaring mountain peaks, and pristine wilderness.
2) Tuesday October 12, 2004 day hike on Mt. Hood 5.5 miles.
Leave Portland 8:00a.m. return 6:00p.m. Includes roundtrip transportation
and local guide. Cost $35 per person. See description below.
Mt. Hood/ Timberline Lodge/Pacific Crest Trail (from

Time: 6 hours
Length: 5.5 miles
Elevation Gain: minus 1,200 feet then back up 1,000 feet
Season: late summer/fall
This trail has been rated one of the best in the Northwest. A hike during
warm weather permits a stunning foreground to close-up views of Mount Hood.
Wildflowers are dense along this stretch, and waterfalls are around each
corner. Nearby glaciers are breathtaking; however, in warm weather, there
are a few streams to cross. And if the temperature is high, water levels
will be high from melting snow. The trail is fairly level to begin with,
then it drops 400 feet into Little Zig Zag Canyon. After climbing back out,
the trail drops another 600 feet into Big Zig Zag Canyon.
Each person is required to bring and carry his or her own water and food.
A good set of boots and inclement weather gear is highly recommended. Space is
