Some weeks ago Janis Kenyon noted the advice to
register one's residence abroad with the US Embassy.
This can be done online at
https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/home.asp
It is suggested that travelers do this before leaving
for a trip and you can choose to register as a
'Traveler' or as "Long Term Resident Abroad'. Given
the recent natural and war-related disasters in the
world, it might provide another contact in the event
of communication difficulties.
