Building on the striking similarities between Tango and Zen, this Workshop will introduce methods through which dancers at any skill level can experience and enjoy the amazing benefits that result from integrating Tango and Zen. Exercises will be shown to lead students to mindfulness, a state of full awareness of oneself, one's partner, and one's surroundings. The exercises, adapted from martial arts, meditation techniques, sports, and from Tango, involve not only physical discipline but also mental focusing of one's whole attention. When the exercises are repeated over time, the participants can acquire/increase their skill with connection, balance, centering, grounding, and weight shifting, all of which are known to be critical for tango dancing. --------------------------------------------------------- Class schedule and description: Saturday 3/26 Class 1: 2:00 to 3:15 Tango Zen-I: "Body moves, mind flows."
