A Bit About Brooke: An expert follower AND leader, Brooke has studied and danced socially with some of the world's top tango masters. Women and men from around the globe have wanted to study with Brooke for her sinuous body movement and original footwork, as well as for her ability to simplify the complexities of tango into easy-to-understand images and allegories. Brooke teaches and performs tango in Buenos Aires, where she lives with her Argentine husband and daughter. Brooke is a lifelong dancer and athlete, whose tango is informed by a variety of movement and contemplative forms, including jazz, yoga, contact improvisation, African dances, freestyle improvisation and Buddhist meditation. Her objective is to enjoy dancing and find optimal expression with as many different dancers as possible. As a result, her dancing is incredibly versatile and her teaching emphasizes flexibility and mental openness. More About Brooke: Brooke is a lifelong dancer and athlete, whose tango is informed by a variety of movement and contemplative forms, including jazz, yoga, contact improvisation, African dances, freestyle improvisation and Buddhist meditation. Her objective is to enjoy dancing and find optimal expression with as many different dancers as possible. As a result, her dancing is incredibly versatile and her teaching emphasizes flexibility and mental openness. As with most dancers in Buenos Aires, she has her own style that is impossible to fit into one category. She loves the intimacy of chest-to-chest contact as well as the rush of more sweeping and dynamic movement. Also she is fascinated by the rich and diverse material and insight she finds in tango's oldest generation. Devoted to the art of improvisation, Brooke teaches so that students can be creative from the start, encouraging exploration and play at all levels. Her classes focus on getting students connected with the ground, with their partners, as well as with their own bodies and how each functions uniquely. What she wants most for her students is for them to have fun and to begin to understand and use the musical, cultural and corporal elements inherent in the dance. Her most influential teachers have been Gustavo Naveira & Olga Besio, Chicho, Graciela Gonzalez, Florencia Taccetti, Mingo & Esther Pugliese and Juan Bruno. She also attributes her knowledge to the immeasurable amount of time dancing in the salons of Buenos Aires and the information transmitted to her directly from her partners on the dance floor.
