Argentine Tango Workshop with Clay Nelson in Memphis, TN March 4-5, 2006

Clay has been a key player in the development of Argentine tango in
Portland. In addition to his highly structured classes, Clay was the first
person to bring Argentine masters to Portland on a regular basis. Even
though Clay now lives in Seattle, he still organizes Portland's TangoFest
every October, and Valentango every February.

1:00 - 2:30pm Beginner's (recommended for all levels)
$20.00

"The 3 elements to achieve tango nirvana" Comfortable embrace, clear
lead/follow, & impeccable timing - these are the absolute essentials to
enter into the "tango zone" of absolute bliss. (Remember, good dancers
always go back to the basics.)

3:00 - 4:30pm Advanced Beginner's/Intermediate
$25.00

"Milonga: the beer & pretzels of tango" If tango is epitomized by the image
of champagne & pearls, then milonga can be thought of as beer & pretzels.
That is, it's the get down and have fun rhythm and dance part of the tango
trilogy (tango, milonga, & vals). In this class we'll start with basics and
progress into intermediate patterns.

8:00 - 11:00pm Milonga Gallery Ballroom, 44
Huling Ave.

Sunday, March 5, 2006

Workshop at TheatreWorks, 2085 Monroe Ave.

1:00 - 2:30pm Intermediate/Advanced $25.00

"101 variations on ochos cortados" Well . not quite 101, but after a quick
review of the classic milonguero pattern called ochos cortado, I'll present
as many variations on it as we have time. Knowing these variations will
greatly increase your vocabulary and variety when dancing in close embrace.

3:00 - 4:30pm Intermediate/Advanced $25.00

"Traspie - adding zip to your milonga" As Duke Ellington wrote (and sung by
Ella Fitzgerald), "it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing." And
swing is what traspie adds to your milonga. This class will begin with
exercises for getting the feet moving, and then we will learn basic patterns
with traspie and how to lead and follow this quick change of timing.
