FLORENCIA TACCETTI PRESENTS:
" ROBERT HAUK -
TANGO MUSICALITY WORKSHOPS"
MARCH 17-19, 2006
ROBERT HAUK has been dancing tango for over 11 years.
He has spent significant time in the milongas of
Buenos Aires and has earned the respect of the
milongueros.
He has studied extensively with Susana Miller for
over 9 years and is recognized as one of the leading
American instructors of the close embrace milonguero
style, having been invited repeatedly to teach at
tango festivals and workshop weekends throughout the
US.
His teaching success is evident in his impact on the
growth of his home tango community - Portland, Oregon
- one of the largest and
most highly skilled tango communities in the US.
Robert is also an excellent DJ, knowing how to judge
the flow of energy and emotions throughout the course
of a milonga and apply the right music to the moment.
Thus is why Robert is also a regular invited DJ at
tango festivals.
On his 1st Visit to Minneapolis he'll be teaching a
Special Program in Musicality that was made under
Florencia's request after knowing his big passion and
knowledge for our music and dance.

- WALKING THE TANGO -
We will work on walking in parallel and crossed feet.
Tango is a walking dance, and the music of the late
1920's and early 1930's is wonderful walking music.
The roots of the golden age sound are found here. We
will make our
walking musical, and lay the foundation for our
exploration of the music.
3 to 4:30 PM - INTERMEDIATE
- RHYTHMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE MUSIC -
The D'Arienzo Revolution: At the beginning of the
golden age the
music developed a driving rhythm that forever changed
the way tango was danced. We will develop a rhythmic
approach to the music with a series of check step
turns that will be the foundation of many turning
combinations.
These turns are compact, and are ideal for dancing a
rhythmic dance. They are easy to combine, and open
many possibilities for
improvising to the music.
5:30 to 7:30 PM - DJ'S DINNER DISCUSSION at JOE
GARAGE (Before Black Dog Milonga) This is an
invitation to our Local DJ's and who ever is
interested on talking, and exchange ideas about
playing music in the Milongas.
SUNDAY 19
1 to 2:30 PM - INTERMEDIATE
- MUSICAL ELEMENTS, THE SYNCOPA AND THE PHRASING OF
THE MUSIC -
There are many characteristic rhythms that are used in
tango music. Each orchestra had it's own unique
approach to these rhythms.
We will develop more turning movements and use them to
explore the musical phrasing.
There are places to walk, and places to turn, places
to dance smoothly, places to play rhythm, all in the
same piece of music.
3 to 4:30 PM - INTERMEDIATE
- SUSPENSION AND PAUSA -
As the music developed through the golden age it went
through many changes. The styles of vocalists changed
the way orchestras played. The influence of De Caro
became prominent. Both Osvaldo Pugliese and Anibal
Troilo were influenced by De Caro.
As the music opened up, the dance evolved again.
We will explore the use of pauses and moments of
suspension to dance with passion and expression.
