>From the Pittsburgh Tangueros May 12-14, 2006 Everyone enjoyed Adam "Hoop" Hoopengardner's first visit to Pittsburgh, so we have invited him back on a quasi-regular basis. Look for Hoop to DJ our monthly Saturday milongas. He will also offer a couple of workshops each time, one for newer dancers, and one for more experienced dancers. Hoop invites groups of 4, 6, or 8 to join together for small group (semi-private) one-hour classes. This allows him to give personalized instruction on topics of your choice, and offers you a way to learn something that can be practiced with others on an ongoing basis. WORKSHOP SCHEDULE (All classes at WSCC, 7604 Charleston Ave, Regent Square 15218)
Friday, May 12 Hoop lands at 2:15. Time for one or two small group classes (4:00 to 7:30-ish)? A) 8:00 - 10:00 pm. Guided practica. $5. Bring your tango questions and get personal pointers. Leaders, please ask Hoop to dance. He is a great follower and an insightful technique analyst. Saturday, May 13 -- Hoop will structure his classes around our abilities, using different exercises to help us explore the dance. 1:00 pm - Sign up and warm up. B)1:30 - 3:00 pm. Connecting in tango. Especially for new dancers. The quality of your "connection" underlies every other move you make. Connecting with your partner is the most satisfying aspect of Argentine tango. C)3:15 - 4:45 pm. Vals. The vals rhythm begs for turns. Focus is on turning in sync with the music. Geared to more experienced dancers. Milonga: 9:00 pm - 1:00 am. Downtown at the Dance Cafe, with DJ Hoop. Refreshments provided. $10/$7 with student ID. The Dance Cafe is located at 120 Sixth Street (across from the Byham Theatre).
