I was planning to reply to Martin but Ron and Sergio have said it all much
better than I could. And thanks to Nina for giving a lady's view. To me, Tango
is a dance between a man and a woman. Part of the man's role is to lead and
part of the woman's role is to follow. But there's more to the man's role than
just leading and there's more to the lady's role than just following.
And, in my opinion, for once Mario is right. To dance tango well I believe a
man
must truly feel like a man. But when Martin says he believes in equality of the
genders, I again agree. But that doesn't mean men and women are the same
or can be the same.
The above is talking about social dancing in the milonga. Practicing in the
role
of the woman, either with a male or female partner can be very useful. But
that's
just practice. Often very boring but unfortunately, for some of us, very
necessary.
