Perhaps once YARV is incorporated into Ruby we'll see real visual
object browsers appear a la SmallTalk and Cocoa. I love IDEA as an
environment as well (and use Eclipse a bit as well). OK, I'm well off
topic....

Personally I won't be doing any Ruby development until there's an

consider
switching back to a language I have to program in a glorified
notepad :).

Wicket sounds cool, but is immature compared to Tapestry.
Howard isn't going anywhere. Tapestry is not only still viable, it's
in heavily active development as is Hivemind.
What is the future of Tapestry? My own opinion is that as long as
there is a need for Java Web Frameworks, Tapestry is the one I want
to use. It's fun to code with. I'm productive. I get reuse. It's
powerful and scales. It is component-based. This user list continues
to grow every day, as does Tapestry's use and mind-share. J2EE is
still the preferred basic toolset to use in The Enterprise world.
Is Tapestry the best tool for all situations? Is a screwdriver good
for hammering in nails?
I also use Ruby on Rails. It has many advantages for quick, small
CRUD apps especially. It's fun. It's powerful. It uses the wonderful
Ruby language.
Ruby as a language is the future of Java. (Just look at all the ways
we keep trying to turn Java into a dynamic language--we don't need
Spring or Hivemind in Ruby.) I predict that Ruby will become what
SmallTalk should have 10 years ago.

Hi all,
Recent views expressed by Howard on his blog and discussions on the
net
makes me question the future of Tapestry. He is sounding more and
more pro
Ruby on Rails and a bit anti Java. So the question is would
Tapestry end up
along the way like one of those abandoned OS projects with no
development
activity whatsover? This is something I think worth thinking about
by we
Tapestry users. To be honest, I'm taking a serious look at Wicket
now.
What do you think?
