I have a number of questions for builders, but I'll start with this one.

What do you look for in the wood you select for the top plate?  How do
know it should be good or not?  Do you look at grain structure?  Do you
tone tap it in it's raw state?

Everything is fair game here, including tangents and sawdust. I have
