At a few festivals, I was able to meet Bill and have him sign a few
things (tape covers, ticket stubs, etc.) and I never had a problem
with it.

The last time I met Bill (I think it was either '95 or '96) he had
played his show and seemed very old (as he was!) during it; at one
point I remember he went to take a mando break on a song, and turned
the wrong way from where his mandolin mic was. So after the show he
was at a table near the stage doing the meet-n-sign, so I stood in the
very long line and eventually got up to him. I had him sign whatever,
and then said to him, "Bill, you take care..." in I guess too
patronizing a voice (I was concerned for him after what I just saw on
stage.) He grabbed my hand, squeezed it tight, and said, "*You* take
care..." It's one of my favorite memories of him.
