I have a lovely old Gibson H-4 Mandola, which has the oval hole. Gorgeous tone. Just wonderful. I don't play it enough.
I personally don't care what kind of holes or body shape or top style or woods an instrument has, as long as it sounds really great and plays well. It's all good to me.
