That's funny, cos I've been doing the same kind of listening, and slowly,
very slowly trying to figure out how to play some of those fiddle tunes.
Then you realise the enormous difference between learning a tune, (which
takes me a good long time - probably several weeks to have it under the
fingers properly), and knowing it well enough to apply the Monroe style to
it, and then get it super clean... and super dirty, and vary the beats and
notes each time, whilst grooving constantly, and with enormous
tone...and...and...

I'm just hoping that listening to a lot of old time will inform my ear -
especially with rhythm  - nobody has it like Monroe, but he started there.
