Thanks, guys... I seem to have rekindled the fire, so at least I'll have some form of calluses for Owensboro :) As it turns out, some folks I met at a bluegrass jam across the state are more or less local, and we got together for a jam session last Sat. Then I auditioned (on bass) for another local b'g band (who knew there was such a thing? not me until last week) so I did get a fair amount of playing in last weekend. I also hit a bluegrass fest before that (Gettysburg PA) and have another this weekend upcoming (Woodstown NJ) so that helps the playing (and listening!) effort as well.
I agree that listening to Bill and like players (Skip Gorman, Tater, ...) is inspiring, but when I sit down to play the stuff, the gap becomes evident, and sometimes it seems like a long road to get there. But if I have some folks to jam with, I think it would make the effort worthwhile... I'm just not much of a "sit around and play by myself" kind of guy. Something about musical interaction with other musicians (esp. ones equal or better than my skill level) is key for me to be motivated to practice. So perhaps I will have that now, and I can keep the mando ball rollin'... As far as stimulants/depressants go, I'm afraid I have run thru my allotment, and they're better left to those who can handle that sort of thing ;) See some of you all in ol' Kentucky soon :) Will On Aug 28, 8:06 am, ljt <[email protected]> wrote: > I agree that if inspiration is low, listening really helps, and so > does the stimulants or depressants how ever one looks at it.
