Speaking as a person who currently has a serious case of island
fever...I can say its a big trip.
A flight only takes about 45 minutes but then one must add on the time
messing around in airports, etc.
Alternatively drive about 4 hours north to Devonport, catch with
car ..an overnight ferry. Then money side,..flights are not too bad
but lodging is xxxy everywhere. Generally one thinks a minimum of say
1,000. for two for a few days in a big town like Melbourne or
Sydney.

So folks on big salaries can go anytime they choose.

I am going to have two weeks on the mainland at the time of our
National Folk Festival, which includes a bit of time in Sydney. Can't
come soon enough to suit me.

We are about the size of West Va. and population of say Wyoming.

Lots of variation in the terrain and a north south thing going on
politically and socially.
