Howdy Root,
It's been my experience that 'oldtimers' don't much care for bluegrass
rhythm, nor mandolins with curls on 'em (or mandolins in general<G>).
I reckon it depends on what style of oldtime you're going to play.
Bang out the chords but let 'em ring.
