So that was you!

I was behind the stage at a camper and I heard Evening Prayer Blues on the
PA and I stopped to listen.  It caught my attention, because nobody aound here
plays that tune.  I said to my friends, "I wonder who that is, he's good"
Great job!
I hate we didn't get to pick some.

3 in a row, that's something!

I played Evening prayer blues, couldn't think of another tune that would sound
good without guitar backup (that I know good enough to play by myself on a
stage anyway).

Jonas,

Congrats on 2nd place, thats great!  I wish I had got to hear you play.  What
tune did you do?

That fiddlers convention is one of the best ones in this area.  It says alot
that someone from Sweden can win there.  At most of the others, the ony ones
that win anything are the local people.

Don,

Thanks for the kind words.  You are right, at most contests "the most notes" do
win.  Even if they play a Monroe tune they clutter it up with too many notes.

I've been lucky this year.  I've won 1st place at the 3 contests I entered.  I
played Kentucky Mandolin twice and Southern Flavor.  I tryed to play them
as close to Bill's version as I could.  I think I'll quit while I"m
ahead.........lol.

I'm glad I entered the competition too (I didn't even bring my Campanella, I
borrowed a Gibson F5 from a nice picker I met there). I got second place and
that came as a complete shock to me, I guess the judges liked the Monroe
stuff.

It felt weird that a guy from Sweden would do well in a mandolin competition in
the Blue Ridge Mountains, but I was happy as can be of course :)

Hey Terry, congratulations. I'm really happy to hear that some Monroe-style did
well at a contest. Seems like those are all "the most notes wins" these days.
From what I've seen and heard of your playing on youtube, you certainly would
represent the Monroe style at its best in a contest--and provide some real
nourishing content amongst all that empty calorie notey stuff. Congrats!
