I do not know of any plans to do with data formats.  Perhaps other 
people have suggestions.

One development that will almost certainly be done is to allow the use 
of data from the provenance captured from previous runs.  That might 
mean that it might be sensible to move to a format for describing input 
values that conforms with the Open Provenance Model.

It should be the same format.  I've just tried, and it worked.  The 
names of the ports (output from T2, input for T1) would have to match.
