It might be helpful in this case to do several nested workflows, one per 'big case' - in that way you can include them individually in 'test' workflows that have string constants with test data (typically saved from a successful run of the upstream workflow).. At least for debugging purposes I've found this useful - although it does make the mother workflow slightly more complex due to the extra nested workflow ports.
