One idea:

I've found that if I'm on a restricted wireless network that gives you
a 'helpful' login page for whatever URL you try to access - it can
confuse software like Taverna who downloads some POM file and believes
the intermediate web server - but Taverna gets very confused when
there's the HTML for the login page there instead of the expected XML
or JAR file.

As such files can be stored in your $HOME/.taverna-2.0 this means you
could inadvertently 'corrupt' your Taverna home directory.

We've lately tried to avoid most of these issues by bundling all
required files in the download and to write to temporary files while
downloading - but that's by best bet for what it could have been..
