of "Quick search toolbar":

The Quick search tool does not perform a filter so all messages are
displayed anyway. I can't think of any good purpose for retaining the
Quick search box on-screen since it pops back up automatically
immediately you start typing in a message list. "Esc" is the standard
method of quickly exiting a dialog box (and the search tool is a very
small one, but a dialog box nonetheless).
So, IMHO I can't see any point in making this change and would rather
see V2 sooner ;-).
