Do I miss something? I thought that quick toolbar doesn't filter messages, it
just position cursor on the first matched message.

Nevertheless, I agree that Esc would better function as a 'wiper' for
quick search contents. It is common to use Esc to cancel current operation
and it is a bit weird to recover quick toolbar from the menu after mistyping.
