If you're talking about displaying only messages from a certain
person, or certain subject, or certain time, etc. in the message list,
you can hold Alt while clicking on a specific subject, person (from),
received/created time, etc.
You can hit Esc to return to the message list's original state.
And of course the usual threading (View -> View Threads By) or
Alt+1,2,3,4,0
